New Marlin Jose Reyes brings his act back to Flushing Tuesday.

If David Wright thought it was strange not seeing Jose Reyes to his left in the infield to start the season, imagine how hell feel when he sees his former teammate in his new Marlins duds Tuesday night at Citi Field.

It will be a little strange, Wright said. But all in all Im excited. Obviously youd like to be on the same side as him but Im eager to see what its going to be like playing against a talent like that.

Wright and Reyes played their first full season together in 2005, but Wright said he had the feeling over the winter that his days with Reyes as his infield wingman were coming to an end.

The writing was on the wall per se, Wright said Monday. You kind of saw the reports and saw how aggressive Miami was. Miami got a great player and Jose got a contract that he deserved and that he earned. Im pretty sure hes happy over there and Im sure there are little things he misses from over here and misses some of the guys here. But I hope hes happy with his decision and I think hes going to have some monster seasons.

Wright said Reyes reached out to him over the winter to inform him of his signing with Miami before he heard it reported elsewhere.

He called and let me know about his decision and was very, very classy, Wright said. (He) wanted to let me know what it meant to him playing together for so long. I thought that was a real nice move on his part. I consider him one of my closest friends in baseball and thats no different now.

The Mets plan to show a video tribute to Reyes prior to Tuesdays game and despite some negative reaction in talk-radio land, Wright thinks the Mets are doing the right thing honoring their former shortstop.

I think he did a tremendous amount for this organization while he was here so I think that whatever positivity comes from his return it is well-deserved because he was one of the most dynamic, one of the best players in baseball over that time, Wright said.
