Report: Gingrich's Secret Service detail ends

Newt Gingrich reportedly lost his Secret Service protection last night, as he continues what has been a slow walk to shutting down his presidential campaign.

NBC News was reporting the tidbit about the Secret Service, whose protection of presidential candidates is estimated to cost $ 38,000 a day.

The Taxpayers Protection Alliance, a non-partisan taxpayer group, had been calling for Gingrich to drop his protective detail in light of the costs.

Gingrich is expected to suspend his presidential campaign next week and throw his support to presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney. He has been acknowledging this week the upcoming end to his presidential campaign, which is $ 4.3 million in debt and has not gotten any traction since he won the Georgia primary last month.

The New York Times today reports how Gingrich has been in no rush to quit.
