Coney Island Ave. is often touted as Brooklyns most diverse stretch of road.
Its easy to see why.
A drive down the five-mile strip is almost like a quick trip around the world.
As the avenue winds from Prospect Park to Brighton Beach,
shops specializing in schnitzel, Pakistani samosas and Kosher deli sandwiches sit side-by-side.
At Avenue W in Sheepshead Bay is Coney Island Taste, an unassuming Peruvian eatery
thats one of the few Latin-American restaurants in the area.
Dont be fooled by the diner-style booths or the photos of egg platters and grilled chicken sandwiches,
Coney Island Taste is authentic, serving tradi tional Peruvian dishes like ceviche and pollo a la brasa (roast chicken).
Both specials occupy the same page on a colorful Spanish-English menu that boasts a mix of American and Latin-American fare.
Roast chicke n
, sold as a whole, half or quarter, comes with an array of sides: rice and beans, french fries, salad or slices of warm sweet plantains.
The juicy golden-brown bird, which gets its flavor from a mix of spices, can be a meal on its own, but, thanks to Coney Island Tastes belly-busting portions, its more enjoyable to dine family-style.
The equally large platter of ceviche there are two types, one with just fish and the other with an assortment of seafood makes for a refreshing entree.
Still hungry? Split a plate of arroz chaufa, Peruvian fried rice.
The dish, adapted from Chinese immigrants who worked in Peru during the 19th century, is a true fusion of cultures.
Just like New York.
