THE CINELIST: TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL
There are so many things to do at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, you could spend a full day just planning your schedule. To make things a little easier, weve culled some of the most notable highlights. For tickets, direct ions, and the full schedule, visit www.tribecafilm.com.
1. Outdoor Movies
Bring the family to the World Financial Center Plaza for free, open-air screenings of The Goonies (4/20) and the baseball documentary Knuckleball (4/21). The films will begin around 8 p.m., but you may want to arrive by 6:30 for pre-show entertainment (and better seats).
2. Tribeca/NYFEST Soccer Day
Need a break from moviegoing? Step away from the screen and head over to the Hudson River Park on Saturday. Adults can watch corporate tournaments featuring surprise celebrity guests while kids participate in drills, games and training. (Pier 40, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.)
3. Downtown Youth Behind the Camera
This collection of shorts, made by NYC school kids, is a great way to introduce the festival to the young and fidgety. Stick around afterwards for a Q&A with the filmmakers, which is sure to be both enlightening and adorable. (4/22 at 333 W. 23rd St, 12:30 p.m.)
4. Freaky Deaky
Check out Charles Matthaus adaptation of Elmore Leonards showbiz thriller, then stay for a conversation with stars Crispin Glover, Michael Jai White, and Andy Dick. Kurt Loder moderates. (4/22 at 333 W. 23rd St, 3:30 p.m.)
5. Premieres
If youve ever wanted to attend a high-profile movie premiere, TFF offers your best shot: there are dozens to choose from. Though most are already sold out, seats are often available to those willing to wait on a rush line an hour before the film starts. Try for the Kate Bosworth romance While We Were Here (4/21 at 333 W. 23rd St, 6:30 p.m.) or Take This Waltz with Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen (4/22 at 199 Chambers St., 6 p.m.).
