Strong earthquake shakes buildings in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY (AP) A strong earthquake has struck in western Mexico and caused tall buildings to sway in Mexico City. Some people have evacuated offices but the mayor says there are no reports of damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports a preliminary reading of 7.0 magnitude. It says the quake was centered in a sparsely populated mountainous area in Mexico's Michoacan state about 209 miles west-northwest of Acapulco.

The tremor hit about 41 miles below the surface.
