Brendan Rodgers: Has Swansa in contention for a top-half finish
Brendan Rodgers is learning quickly that life in the Premier League spotlight can see you lauded one minute and harangued the next.
The Swansea boss has earned plenty of plaudits this season, with his side making a mockery of the pre-season doom-mongers to put themselves in contention for a top-half finish.
A style of play based on slick, passing football has been admired by many, with the Swans proving that it is possible to compete with the top-flight elite without deserting your principles.
It has not been all plain sailing for Swansea, though, with a recent four-match losing sequence seeing one pundit claim their 3 -0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers was like 'watching paint dry'.
The Swans offered the perfect response to those accusations as they swept aside Blackburn on Saturday, but Rodgers insists he has never felt as though his players have a point to prove.
Realism
After overseeing a 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Rovers, he said: "I didn't see the comments. Well, we certainly had a nice bright colour to the room today, didn't we? I'm not here to preach about how we play. For us it's our way of playing. I don't worry about it.
"It's part of football. One month ago, we were going to be Barcelona and playing European football and four weeks later after losing four games we were going to get relegated.
"But I have got a sense of realism of where we have come from. What these players have achieved has been phenomenal, and I will always back them to the hilt.
"You win games and then you get plaudits and that's great.
"But I am alw ays more interested in how we play and how many points we accrue. Here, we got both and the response from the players was fantastic."
