Brendan Rodgers: Swansea boss has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that any suitors will have to pay a significant sum in compensation if they want to lure him away from the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans boss has been linked with a number of top jobs in the Premier League following his exploits in establishing the Welsh side in the Premier League and playing an attractive brand of football.

Tipped by many pundits for an immediate return to the Championship following their play-off success last year, Swansea have confounded their critics and are currently 10th in the table ahead of Sunday's testing trip to Tottenham.

Spurs are one of the clubs said to hold an interest in Rodgers, with White Hart Lane manager Harry Redknapp strongly tipped to take over as the new England manager, while Chelsea has been mooted as another possible destination.

Rodgers has rejected suggestions that his contract contains a release clause should any of the top-flight clubs come calling in South Wales, but admitted that Swansea will benefit financially if he does move o n to pastures new.

Rewarded

The former Watford and Reading boss told reporters: "I didn't put any clause in my contract to say if a top four club comes in then I can speak to them. Not at all.

"The only item that was in the contract was if a big club came in and wanted me, and the chairman and I felt it was right for us to move on, then I wanted the club to benefit from it.

"That was very important for me that if I left the club would get rewarded.

"Other than that, I didn't want to instigate anything in the contract because I wanted to show I was happy here and continue to work."
