President Obama says he's met Mitt Romney -- and that's about it.
"I've met him ... but we're not friends," Obama told NBC talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
"He seems like somebody who cares deeply about his family," Obama added. "His wife (Ann) is lovely."
When Fallon asked the president what he would say to his likely Republican opponent, Obama deadpanned: "I would say, 'Hey Mitt, how you doing?'"
Obama and Romney have run in different circles, and it's hard to get to know someone in the heat of a campaign -- not with all those negative ads.
"It's not the best introduction," Obama said.
Obama also said of opponents:
"Usually ... you end up meeting him or her during debates.
"When you're in a primary, then you typically know the folks you're running against. John McCain I knew because we served in the Senate together.
"Mr. Romney was a governor so I didn't have the occasion to get to know him very well."
