Joey Barton: Queens Park Rangers midfielder has been praised by Clint Hill for his recent rallying cry

Queens Park Rangers defender Clint Hill believes team-mate Joey Barton was 'brave' to respond to criticism from supporters and believes it has had the desired effect.

Barton joined QPR last summer from Newcastle United, but he has recently been the target for stick from a section of the club's fans.

He wrote in his programme notes prior to last month's home win over Arsenal that he did not 'feel at one' with the fans and that the criticism had started to 'seep in'.

The midfielder's comments appeared to have a galvanising effect as QPR beat Arsenal 2-1 and the relegation strugglers are back on home soil against Swansea City on Wednesday evening.

Hill has praised Barton for having the strength to express his opinion and is now targeting a third successive win at Loftus Road against Swansea.

"Joey was brave to come out and say what he said in his programme notes, but it has had the desired effect," Hill told the club's official website.

"The fans have been a little bit despondent with some o f our performances and results, but there is a unity about us right now.

"It was a bit of a rallying cry if you like. It worked wonders against Arsenal and hopefully it will do the business against Swansea too."
