Former Net Schintzius dead at 43

Dwayne Schintzius is dead at age 43. He played four of his nine NBA seasons with the New Jersey Nets.

Former Net Dwayne Schintzius died Sunday at the age of 43, according to a Tampa Bay Online report.

Schintzius, who played with the Nets fro m 1992-1995, was battling a rare form of leukemia.

He was drafted out of Florida in the first round of the 1990 NBA Draft (24th overall) by the San Antonio Spurs and went on to a nine-year NBA career with the Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Nets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics.

Schintzius, a 7-1 center, didn't produce big numbers in his career but posted career bests of 5.8 points per contest 5.0 rebounds off the bench for the Nets in the 1993 NBA playoffs.
