Steve Coppell: Has been appointed as director of football at Crawley Town

Crawley Town have acted quickly following the exit of manager Steve Evans by appointing Steve Coppell as director of football.

Evans made a surprise switch to fellow League Two side Rotherham at the weekend despite Crawley still having ambitions of automatic promotion this season.

Former Manchester City and Crystal Palace boss Coppell was last involved in management at Bristol City in 2010 and will oversee all football matters with assistant manager Craig Brewster remaining at the club.

Crawley chief executive Alan Williams said in a statement: "Bringing someone with Steve's stature in football as well as his experience and det ailed knowledge of the game to Crawley Town is another important milestone in the development of the club.

"Steve's background and pedigree will help us to achieve our dreams of pushing into League One and beyond.

"I'm sure his appointment will be welcomed by everyone with Crawley Town FC at heart."
