Ann Romney: Work flap was 'defining moment'

Ann Romney says the flap over whether she's worked outside the home was an "early birthday present."

Today, she'll celebrate her 63rd birthday for real by headlining a fundraiser in Virginia and sitting down with her husband, Mitt, the likely GOP presidentia l nominee, for an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer.

For those who missed it, there was a huge uproar last week when Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen said Ann Romney has "actually never worked a day in her life." Rosen apologized to the mother of five but not before her comment ignited a political firestorm.

"It was my early birthday present for someone to be critical of me as a mother," Ann Romney said Sunday at a fundraising event, according to NBC News and The Wall Street Journal. "That was a really defining moment, and I loved it."

Romney is headlining a women-only fundraising event in McLean, Va., today hosted by philanthropist Catherine Reynolds and Mar lene Malek, wife of longtime GOP operative Fred Malek.

ABC News says the interview will take place at Fenway Park. Why? Because today is Patriots' Day in and the Romneys are Red Sox fans. He's even taking a couple of supporters along with him to the ballgame.
