Alex Chung: I'm not 'thinspo'

Alexa Chung (r.) poses with her mother in the Instagram photo that sparked a firestorm of controversy Monday night.

Alexa Chung fired back at fans who admonished an Instagram pic highlighting her skinny frame, insisting that shes not actively trying to be thinspo.

Followers lashed out at the model and TV personality after she posted a photo of herself online looking so skinny its gross. Instagram users honed in on the 28-year-olds bare legs, calling them unhealthy and too skinny.

The criticism comes amid a storm of so-called thinspiration, or thinspo, on social media websites, where users upload photos meant to encourage unhealthy weight loss and eating disorders.

Ew shes so skinny its gross, wrote one user.

Im worried about her, too, wrote another.

Chung, who has since made her Instagram profile private, wrote the following in response:

Ok everyone thanks for the teen angst discussions. People are different sizes. Im not actively trying to be thinspo for anyone. I am now making this acct private.

The photo shows Chung, who currently hosts Lifetimes 24 Hour Catwalk, wearing a short denim dress and sunglasses, standing next to her mother.

Even before the proliferation of thinspiration, Chung was targeted for being too skinny, swatting away rumors of anorexia and insisting shes naturally thin.

It angers me because I dont want to be a pinup for young girls just for being thin, she told OK! Magazine in January. I dont want to be admired for being thin as opposed for being dressed well - and I don't want the two to get confused.
