"Una Noche" opened at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, minus its two 20-year-old stars Javier Nunez Florian and Anailin de la Rua de la Torre.
A PAIR OF Cuban actors expected in New York for the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of their movie about defecting to America have vanished.
Javier Nunez Florian and Anailin de la Rua de la Torre disappeared soon after they landed in Miami last Friday.
The stars of Una Noche were expecte d to make their way to Manhattan for the movies red-carpet premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday night, but never showed, said the movies director, Lucy Mulloy.
I really was thinking that they were going to come here and enjoy the festival, and I thought they would love to participate in it, Mulloy told The Huffington Post.
But things can be difficult in Cuba. Theres an embargo, and so theres a lot of challenges, said Mulloy, adding that she was disappointed in the actors apparent decision to defect.
She said the two 20-year-old actors were given temporary visas for their first trip to America.
Una Noche is a feature film about Cuban teens who are enticed by the idea of escaping poverty in Havana for a new life in Miami.
Mulloy and actor Dariel Arrechada, 20, showed up at Friday nights premiere, and both said they plan to return to Cuba. Mulloy said no one from the films crew has been able to get in touch with the missing act ors.
Thats their choice, you know? Arrechada told The Huffington Post. If you want to stay in the United States, I think, well, stay. If you want to go back, go back. . . . Its about what you want to do with your life.
