Saying there are several hundred thousand signatures more than needed, Wisconsin election officials today recommended that the r ecall vote against Republican Gov. Scott Walker should proceed, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The Government Accountability Board will vote Friday to certify the recall for June 5. Voters would also be asked whether Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch should be recalled.
Although Walker supporters have claimed there was rampant fraud in collecting names on the petitions, elections officials said only five fake names were found out of the more than 930,000 submitted. The election board's staff voided about 26,000 incomplete signatures and found about 4,000 duplicate names.
Recall supporters needed 540,208 valid signatures and collected 900,938.
Three Republican state senators are also facing recall; a fourth has resigned.
