Primera Liga round-up

Real Madrid moved a step closer to wrestling the Liga title from Barcelona after crushing Osasuna while their rivals beat Athletic Bilbao.

Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid were in no mood to give Barca a sniff of finishing in top spot with a thumping 5-1 win at Osasuna.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in spectacular fashion in the seventh minute and Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain both scored twice as Mourinho's side ran out comfortable winners.

Francisco Nino got on the scoresheet for the home side, but they never truly threatened to cause an upset against the league leaders.

Real's win piled the pressure on Barcelona, but they respo nded in kind with a 2-0 success over Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou.

The visitors produced a resolute performance, although they were eventually penetrated when Andres Iniesta drilled home from Lionel Messi's through ball.

Messi double Pep Guardiola's side lead in the second half when he converted from the penalty spot after Javi Martinez brought down Cristian Tello.

With Spain's top two both winning, Real Madrid remain six points clear of their arch rivals.

Elsewhere, Malaga's European hopes suffered a blow following a 2-0 home defeat to Real Betis.

First-half goals from Ruben Casto and Jose Dorado secured a surprise three-point haul for the visitors.

Guilherme Siqueira's 89th-minute penalty was enough to secure Granada a deserved 1-0 win over Racing Santander.

The visitors had by far the best of the opening period but failed to make the breakthrough as Odion Ighalo hit the post and Mario Ferna ndez made smart saves to deny Abel Gomez and Dani Benitez.

Racing improved after the break but still failed to provide any threat in the final third and were finally undone when Bernardo upended Ikechukwu Uche in the final minute and Siqueira calmly sent Mario the wrong way from the spot to ensure Granada move nine points clear of their opponents in the fight for survival.

Angel Lafita scored a stoppage-time winner as Real Zaragoza continued their top-flight revival with a 2-1 victory over Sporting Gijon at El Molinon.

After a nervy opening, Helder Postiga gave the visitors the lead as he raced onto David Mateos' flick-on to slot past Juan Pablo.

Sebastian Eguren equalised for Sporting three minutes into the second half, taking advantage of poor marking to head home at the back post, but in a dramatic finish Lafita handed Zaragoza their third straight win by sweeping home Franco Zuculini's cross.
