Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Note device has reached a rather impressive five million sales, just five months after launch.
Eyebrows were raised when the Korean giant announced the 5.3-inch phone/tablet hybrid device, with many wondering whether this too-small-to-be-a-tablet, too-large-to-be-a-phone gadget would find its niche.
However, it appears Samsung's Hail Mary has paid dividends with a million sales a month since its arrival in November 2011.
The Galaxy Note, like many of the top Android devices, is still waiting for an Ice Cream Sandwich update along with the promised premium suite of apps designed to make use of the device's stylus. Those are expected in Q2.
Amid this somewhat unexpected success, Samsung also revealed a Galaxy Note 10.1 to sit alongside the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
So congratulations to Samsung for proving the doubters wrong. It turns out people do want 5.3-inch smartphones after all. Or is it a tablet?
