Utah cops found Susan Powell's blood at home

Utah police found Susan Cox Powell's blood in her home the day after she was reported missing in 2009, according to a search warrant unsealed Friday in Washington state.

West Valley City police also found a hand-written "last will and testament" in which Powell described long-standing marital problems with her husband, Josh. She wrote that she mistrusted him and that "if Susan Powell dies it may not be an accident, even if it looks like one," the Associated Press reports.

In early February, Josh Powell killed his two young sons and himself in a gasoline-fueled blaze in a house near Tacoma, Wash.

Utah authorities found the blood, which was later determined to be Susan Powell's, on a floor next to a sofa, which looked like it had been cleaned recently. Two fans were positioned to blow on it, AP says.

Police also found $ 1.5 million worth of life insurance policies on Susan Powell, and determined that Josh Powell had filed paperwork to tap into her retirement account about 10 days after she vanished in early December 2009.

The revelations raise new questions about why Utah police never arrested Josh Powell as a suspect in his wife's disappearance. Her body h as never been found.

West Valley City police would not comment on the materials because their investigation continues, a spokesman said.

"This case began as a missing person case and remains as such," said Sgt. Mike Powell, who is not related to the Powell family. "But due to the suspicious nature ... murder and kidnapping have not been excluded."

The documents were unsealed today during a hearing in Tacoma in the case of Josh Powell's father, Steven. He is charged with 14 counts of voyeurism and one count of possessing an image of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

AP writes that the 29 pages of documents "describe how Steven Powell had an apparent obsession with his daughter-in-law. A locked cabinet in Steve Powell's bedroom contained multiple images of Susan Powell, including some of her in her underwear. Other images showed nude female bodies with Susan Powell's face copied onto them."

The Salt Lake Tribune writes that "Powell filmed himself masturbating to photos of Susan Powell, the search warrants state, and took photos of his daughter-in-law while she was doing her hair in the bathroom with her underwear on. He also sneaked a camera under Susan Powell's dress while she was sitting at a table and unaware of her father-in-law's actions, the search warrants state."

His lawyers asked a judge to unseal the warrants served Aug. 25 for his Puyallup, Wash., home and cars.
