A man was struck by a private sanitation truck early Friday.

A 23 year-old man was crushed to death by a recycling truck early Friday morning on a Manhattan street, police and witnesses said.

The victim, who hasn't been identified, was apparently trying to cross 10th Ave. near 45th St. outside of the crosswalk around 3 a.m. when he was hit by a private sanitation truck.

The man died at the scene.

The driver of the recycling truck remained at the scene, and police said that they don't expect any charges to be filed against him.

The truck driver, visibly shaken, said the man came out of nowhere. "I didn't even see him," said the driver, who did not want to be identified. "He just went right under the rear tires."

A worker who was riding on the rear of the truck also didn't realize they had hit the man. "I didn't feel anything. We pulled over and I just looked back after we stopped and saw him laying there," said the worker, who also didn't want to be identified.

"This is not something you ever want to see. That could have been one of us," added the worker.
