It appears video game players may have seen the final season of 2K's pro baseball simulation.
Kotaku reports Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K, has confirmed Major League Baseball 2K12 is the last title developed as part of their multi-year deal with MLB. However, they would not comment on whether players will see a fresh game in 2013.
According to a lineup of upcoming releases shared by Take-Two as part of its fiscal year earnings call, a new Major League Baseball 2K title is absent from the list.
2K's deal with Major League Baseball granted them third-party exclusivity, meaning no other video game publisher could produce a MLB-licensed title. This excludes console makers, which is how Sony is clear to develop their long-running franchise MLB: The Show.
So, although PlayStation 3 owners would still have an annual MLB title, 2013 could mark the first year Xbox 360 owners won't have an official baseball video game.
Critically, Major League Baseball 2K has struggled to compete against the superior MLB: The Show series. This year's game averaged a review score of 68 on Metacritic, while last year's MLB 2K11netted an average in the low 70s.
