This weeks Dancing With the Stars saw a return to classical ballroom offerings and with it, the seasons first perfect score.
The flawless performance was courtesy of Are-they?-Are-they-not? couple Maria Menounos and Derek Hough.
They won over the crowd and the judges with a dark and diabolical paso doble, complete with the sexy Extra TV host looking wicked in a pair of fangs.
The queen of the damned is the queen of the night, judge Bruno Tonioli cried. The structure of this dance, the way you built the tension ... was absolutely spellbinding.
Melissa Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy didn't get quite such a hearty reception on the dance floor, however.
Their Argentine tango was like Cirque de Soleil gone terribly wrong, as judge Carrie Ann Inaba put it a comment that left Chmerkovskiy visibly incensed, though he wisely bit his tongue.
Jaleel Whites turn on the dance floor, where he did a stiffly executed Viennese waltz, was also greeted with a lukewarm-at-best reception.
I like it enough, head judge Len Goodman remarked dismissively. There was an airy fairy feel, but no real footwork.
It was all the more disappointing, to be sure, because the other waltz performed Monday night, by NFL player Donald Driver, earned a trio of 9s and a host of compliments from the judges.
It is from my country and I thank you, Tonioli grinned. I love it.
All seven remaining couples closed out the night in the much-anticipated team dances. The showdown was between Team Paso (Driver, William Levy and Chmerkovskiy) and Team Tango (Menounos, White, Katherine Jenkins and Roshon Fegan).
Team Paso, with a 26, came in one point behind Team Tango.
