Several computer manufacturers including Acer and Toshiba are expected to reveal new tablets running Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system.
According to Bloomberg, Acer will unveil a straightforward tablet, while Toshiba plans on announcing a hybrid laptop/tablet device.
Both will appear at the annual Computex computer expo in Taiwan.
The tablets should provide a first look into how Windows 8 will run on the portable device. Microsoft just launched a final test version of the operating system for personal computers.
Microsoft jumps into a fierce battle into the tablet market. While Apple is dominating with its iPad, Amazon has made huge strides at retail with the popular -- and more affordable -- Kindle Fire. There's also the small army of tablets running Google's Android OS, such as Samsung's Galaxy Tab.
Windows 8 appears to have a more mobile interface, using tiles to help users explore e-mail, surf the Web or launch other applications.
